Three fresh-water wells were brought to the Malone Village near Livingstone, Zambia.
New shoes, backpacks, subject binders and more were distributed throughout the Copperbelt community to over 60 vulnerable students.
We currently support two feeding programs...One at Possibilities Abound Preschool and the other at Zambia Compound. Both of these are in the Kitwe, Zambia area and bring life-sustaining enriched porridge to over 150 orphaned and vulnerable children.
Attending Preschool helps give a child a strong foundation for learning and general life skills. Currently there are zero government run preschools in Zambia.
Thank you to all of those who have partnered with us in making a difference for the orphaned and vulnerable children of Zambia!
If you're passionate about making a difference, join our team and become part of the Possibilities Abound, Inc. family. We're always looking for dedicated individuals to help us achieve our goals.
WOW! I can’t believe that Christmas has come and gone and we are about to finish up the first month of 2024! I would like to share with you some of the projects that took place in 2023 through Possibilities Abound, Inc.
Possibilities Preschool is going strong with a group of incredibly dedicated teachers and supporters. The children and teachers work diligently, under what we would consider harsh conditions, to give each child the head-start they need to secure a solid foundation for the future. Under the watchful eye of Mama Cecile and our friends from First Marion Sunday School Class in Marion, Arkansas, the children are provided with a nutritious, vitamin enriched porridge 3 times a week to help with growth and learning.
The feeding program at Zambia Compound continues to thrive. I have never seen a group of more dedicated women than the ladies who oversee this program. They have been working with us for years to ensure that these extremely vulnerable and orphaned children are not left behind or forgotten. Thanks to a group of VBS children along with the Mission Program from Churubusco UMC in Indiana, this program will be able to continue through 2024!
In early June, I found myself in unfamiliar territory at the Indiana UMC Conference in Muncie, Indiana. Thanks to Jennifer Huff, I was invited to share the ministry of Possibilities Abound, Inc. with several groups over the course of 4 days. It was a wonderful experience and I met some incredible people who share our love of mission.
In late June and early July, I had the privilege of traveling with Dr. James Nichols (pastor of First Marion in Marion, Arkansas), his wife Jamie and Stephen and Connie Sorrells (also from First Marion) to Zambia. We spent three weeks traveling from Livingstone to Kitwe where we checked on our fresh water wells in Malone Village and scoped out a plan for the 2024 Medical Mission. James and the group worked with the New Life Center staff to lead a Pastor’s Conference with pastors from the central region of Zambia. We visited our preschools and the feeding programs where we were able to share the love of Christ with the children through crafts, stories, and song. They also taught us about finding joy in the simplest things.
In Kitwe, our group had the humbling experience of passing out student sponsorship kits to the 60 children you so generously sponsored! The kits included new socks and
shoes, backpacks, and subject notebooks. All the items in the kits are required for students to attend school and without you, they would not be able to acquire these items.
We left Zambia blessed, grateful, and thankful for all of you who make a difference for these vulnerable children. Over the years you have made more of a difference than I can ever express, but now is not the time to rest. Now is the time to keep moving forward.
Even now, as I give you this update, we are deep in the planning stages of a Medical Mission trip to take place in late June of this year. We are, once again, partnering with our friends from First Marion in Arkansas to bring this trip to fruition. Thank you for supporting us and allowing us to be the hands and feet of Christ. Keep us in your prayers as we strive to bring medical care, and more, to the children of Malone Village and surrounding communities.
SUCCESS!!! Success is the word that best describes this latest trip to Zambia. When I left the U.S. on June 4th I had a list of 4 things I hoped to accomplish on this trip. When I returned on June 20th I had crossed all 4 off the list!
One objective was to check in with the Bill Dever Possibilities Preschool and the 60 children who attend. They are doing great! Their English has improved and they are learning their ABC's, shapes, numbers, and more. The feeding program has improved their cognitive ability and they are eager and ready to learn.
Because of your generosity, we were able to purchase sweaters (it's winter now) for all the children as well as crayons, coloring books and posters for the classrooms. Playground equipment will be coming soon!
More information on our preschools can be found here...
Another objective was to meet with some of the Sponsored Students and get to know them a little better. They are wonderful young people with big dreams and the determination to take advantage of the "gift of sponsorship" to succeed. More information on student sponsorship can be found here...
There are a many factors that must be considered in choosing a site for our preschools. On this trip we were able to visit possible sites for our next project.
Last but not least, an inventory of medical supplies was taken and the beginning stages of planning a medical mission has begun. More information to follow soon.
